Seraphina is hands down the most approachable, fun, quirky and cool dance instructor I’ve ever witnessed. As someone who has been around this scene for the past 10 years, I can confidently say that this is not your cookie cutter approach to teaching social dance. Her positivity is infectious and ability to convey expertise is top notch. Learning a new skill has never been more fun.

Seraphina grew up dancing in The Vanaver Caravan International Dance Institute and teaches partner dancing in group classes, private lessons, and workshops. Her dance experience has its base in Modern but includes everything from West African Dance, Appalachian Clogging and performing her own choreography at Yale’s National Bellydancing Conference. Passionate about cross-cultural performing arts work, Seraphina has partnered with the United Nations and The Friendship Ambassadors Foundation to exchange arts and conversation through conferences for hundreds of international delegates. And in Israel, she taught dance to Israeli and Palestinian teenagers to facilitate peace between borders.

Testimonials from work with the Brooklyn Public Library

I thoroughly enjoy working with Seraphina, who is extremely professional, easygoing, and attentive to detail. In her sessions for the library, she is exuberant in her presentations, encouraging to the patrons, and attuned to clients’ specific needs or questions. Due to patrons’ requests and Seraphina’s continuous increases in attendance numbers, we continue to bring her back over and over. We continue to look forward to working with her. -Lyman Clayborn, Coordinator of Services for Brooklyn Public Library

Seraphina’s positive attitude makes her a pleasure to work with and is one of the reasons she is so well-liked by our participants. A highly motivated, qualified professional, she always greets our participants with a smile. Her flexibility, patience and ability to adapt to all of our participants questions and concerns demonstrate her expertise. -Judith Vigo, Program Outreach for Brooklyn Public Library

Seraphina cofounded Swing Sundays, a biweekly event in Brooklyn that creates community through live music and dance.

On Swing Sundays

I have never seen a dance class as engaged and happy as this class. Seraphina’s true skill is teaching her students to find joy in the connection dance can offer, and it works! And Katie’s music is hands down the best swing jam around.
